Reference You Stress
Speaker-relative match0.82

Your delivery is 82% similar to how this speaker said this exact line.

Correction

Let the pitch fall later on "working."Right now the sentence closes too early, so the line sounds flatter and less speaker-like.

The friction you already know

You speak English every day. People still ask you to repeat.

You know English. The problem is delivery — the stress, rhythm, and pitch patterns that real speakers use without thinking. Most tools never show you these.

01

The waste of replaying podcasts 10 seconds at a time

You open a podcast to learn real English, then end up fighting the player because it was never built for sentence-level practice.

02

Podcasts are great input. But input alone does not fix output.

You can listen to hundreds of hours and still not close the gap between how you speak and how they speak. Without a way to compare your delivery to theirs line by line, listening stays passive.

“I moved to the US at 30. My grammar was perfect. After 8 years, people still asked me to repeat myself.”

I tried every pronunciation app and YouTube course available. They graded my sounds, but people still couldn't follow me. The problem was never pronunciation — it was delivery: the stress, rhythm, and pitch patterns that native speakers use without thinking.

Linguistics research confirmed it. Studies show that stress, pausing, and pitch predict comprehensibility more strongly than pronunciation accuracy — accounting for half of how listeners judge whether you're easy to understand. No app was measuring these.

Podcasts felt closest to what I needed. Real people, real speech, topics I cared about. But they weren't built for practice. So I built the tool that was missing.

Why ShadowSpeak exists

You can only fix what you can see

ShadowSpeak shows you exactly where your delivery is different from the speaker — one line, one gap, one better attempt at a time.

Four axes we measure:

Chunking
Where you pause between phrases
Stress
Which words you emphasize
Pitch
How your voice rises and falls
Pronunciation
How closely sounds match
Your current line
Speaker target

Your gap, visualized

Different stress. Different pauses. Different pitch shape. Not a score that says "wrong" — a mirror that shows exactly where you differ from the speaker you chose.

How it works

Three steps from listening to speaking

The flow stays simple on purpose: choose a line you care about, shadow it, and get exact feedback before the next attempt so momentum stays intact.

Common questions

Before you sign up

What podcasts can I practice with?

Any podcast you already listen to. Tell us your favorite when you sign up and we will prioritize onboarding that content first.

What does a 0.82 speaker match mean?

It means your delivery is 82% similar to how the original speaker said that exact line — measured across stress, chunking, pitch, and pronunciation. Most learners start around 0.65 and reach 0.85+ within a few sessions.

Is this a pronunciation app?

No. Pronunciation is only one of four axes we measure. Research shows stress, pausing, and pitch predict comprehensibility more strongly than pronunciation accuracy — yet those are the areas most apps ignore.

Do I need to lose my accent?

Never. Your accent is part of who you are. ShadowSpeak helps you improve delivery — the rhythm and emphasis patterns that make you easier to understand — without changing your identity.
